Mental illnessA gunman shot multiple people on the campus of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois, killing 6 (including himself) and wounding 18. It was the fourth-deadliest university shooting in United States history. The students were shot while attending an oceanography class in a large auditorium-style lecture hall. The shooter, 27-year-old Steven Kazmierczak, was described as "an outstanding student" who reportedly stopped taking medication prior to the shooting and became "somewhat erratic".
