Mental illnessVictim was shot at about 7:30 am in the hallway near the school's auto shop just as school was resuming after the winter break. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. Suspect was apprehended about two hours later. Motive is unknown. The 19-year-old shooter, Douglas Chanthabouly, was found too mentally ill to stand trial by the judge, and was committed to Western State Hospital for 90 days of efforts to restore him to mental competence to stand trial.
